Part of the excitment of making this work was finding the elephant dung and working out how to work with it!

After tracking down a willing dung donor i found out this heard of elephants at Whipsnade zoo were the same ones that Chris Ofili had got his dung from over 15 years ago and possibly even the exact same elephant!

Carrying a bag of smelly shit back to my studio on 2 trains and 2 buses was fairly entertaining,

after spending a lot of time studying Ofili’s work up close i then got to work making a couple of prototypes.

Using the same techniques of resin coating, beading and painting i am really happy with the final outcome:

So it has been an absolute honour and privilege to be asked by Tate Britain to produce some work in response to an artist i have admired for a long time: Chris Ofili.

Here are pictures of my first piece, a pair of 10″ platform heels made from elephant shit!

The work is entitled “Anything comes when it comes to (s)hoes…”

And will be going on display in Tate Britain from sunday 14th March.

So i have been working on a couple of major bits of work for Tate Britain! i will share them with you real soon.

They will be on display at the gallery from the 14th of March as part of the Bring the Noise events:

Thanks to Rebecca at The Deptford Project i was able to produce this new piece entitled “HEARTFELT”.
